About Us

Valley Rain has been serving as a Recreation and Sports Design-Builder longer than any other firm: Field turf and irrigation for 43 years; Design for 32 years; Design-Build for 15 years; and CMAR for 17 years.

100% Focus on Arizona Parks, Recreation, and Open Space
since 1976

Valley Rain entered the Phoenix landscape construction market as public works specialty subcontractor. Our firm quickly became a dominant landscape subcontractor in Arizona, completing landscape and irrigation in public parks, golf courses, and sports facilities. In our early years, we completed large-scale irrigation systems for freeways and other large turf areas as well as countless major street landscapes.

Becoming Arizona’s Park and Recreation Expert

In the 70’s and 80’s, Valley Rain led the public work landscape market in the Phoenix area performing the largest portions of park development projects as a subcontractor.  As park development in Arizona grew more complex, there was an evolving need for expert services in park general contracting that was not being met by heavy/highway or general building contractors.

In 1989, Valley Rain invested in civil construction management and experienced trade workers to become a qualified general contractor, building turn-key park and drainage construction projects. The company strategically combined self-performing landscape, underground, grading and concrete trades with specialty building and electrical trades to complete hundreds of park projects as a Prime Contractor.

Onward and Upward

Heading to the
Big Leagues

In 1998, Valley Rain frequently landed on the front page of the local newspapers as it constructed the baseball field for Bank One Ballpark (now Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks) for Maricopa County as one of seven prime contractors on the project. On this project, Valley Rain made sports field history by developing a conical-shaped laser and automated blade controls to achieve sand tolerances of plus or minus 0.02 feet for our sod subgrade without the use of conventional stakes.  Our scope included the final excavation of the stadium field, storm drain, subgrade drainage system, USGA gravel blanket, USGA (modified) root zone mix (sand), irrigation, sod and all soil mix components.  The project earned accolades for high quality and safety.

A New Way to Build Projects

In 2002 and 2003, after changes in the Arizona law for public procurement, Alternative Project Delivery Methods (APDM) were introduced to the construction scene, and Valley Rain was awarded the first CMAR park (Steele Indian School Park) and the first Design-Build Park (Avondale Youth Sports Complex).

Since the beginning of Alternative Procurement in Arizona, Valley Rain has remained dedicated to the collaborative methods of Design-Build, CMAR and JOC. Our history, experience and consistent quality have resulted in long-term relationships and repeat contracts with Arizona Cities, Towns and Park Design Teams on public parks and open space projects. Our expertise creatively combines civil-horizontal construction, vertical elements and landscape construction to create a variety of memorable destinations for public enjoyment. We remain the only Arizona Contractor dedicated exclusively to parks and have earned recognition as a premier park contractor for the state.

In 2019, Valley Rain rebranded with a new logo, typography and imagery to better reflect our capabilities as a full service Horizontal General Contractor.
