ENR Southwest awarded the Best Project in 2018 for Landscape and Urban Development to Valley Rain and its team. An ENR Best Project Award is considered one of commercial construction’s most prestigious and coveted honors. Competing entries were from Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada.

The Veterans Memorial at Rio Vista pays tribute to past, present and future veterans and their families for the sacrifices they have made to protect our country, ideals, and virtues. Our workers became passionate about the cause and it showed in their work.

The Memorial includes a cantilevered plaza over the existing lake, shade canopies, lighting, seating areas, and refurbishment of the landscape and irrigation. The site is part of Rio Vista Community Park Phase One built also by Valley Rain in 2004.

The Memorial includes additional plaza space, an entry feature that highlights the five military branches, a water feature below the cantilevered deck, wiring for a sound/audio system and a flag wall to display the flags of the five military branches. A special moment of pride for the crew was the mounting of a restored Bell UH-1 helicopter, nicknamed Huey, on a curved steel stand eighteen feet above the plaza.

Special recognition was shared with our client, the City of Peoria, our designers, Aztec and Architekton, and with key subcontractors, Caliente Ironworks and Airpark Signs & Graphics.
